Watching for the first time and am pissed over the casting choice for Essie McGowan. I had to pause it and rant lol.
First off, she is described in her adult years as curvy and bellowed. Well, Emily Browning is beautiful and many things, but those two words do not describe her body type.
Emily's Irish accent was mid at best.
I don't understand the significance of having the same actress play both roles. Is she supposed to be spiritually attached to the leprechaun? She can't stand him. She really needs ANOTHER romantic counterpart? She already gets plenty of screen time. This could have been a great smaller role for another actress!
Maybe even a plus size or voluptuous actress! Who is actually from Ireland! I realize this was a bit before the body diversity trend and realistic casting trend (Irish playing Irish, indigenous playing indigenous, autistic playing autistic, trans playing trans) and it shows!
Update : the showrunners just wanted to see Emily Browning in as many sexual scenarios as possible. There's also some questionable lines in this narration "At 17, all girls possess beauty"...."Essie was hungry"..."Essie was SO hungry"..."Essie gave away her food, again"..."Essie NEVER ate". Lol now I'm having fun with it bit uh, yeah some kinks are showing.
