First I am asking here not to troll, but I really am curious and only those that fly AA could answer this.
What does American Airlines strive to be? The three legacy full-service US carriers are pretty much the same. There are slight differences, but they try to be known for and prioritize.
Delta, the Delta Difference, wants to be known for its customer service and relatability, such as the 20-minute checked bag guarantee. On time arrivals, and keeping you informed throughout your travel through their app. Where you luggage is during your flight, what boarding group is being boarded, arriving late, early, on time, etc. Newer plans for have free wifi for the whole flight. Free wifi on newer planes for the whole flight.
United wants to be known for its global reach and complex operations. They fly to some of longest and furthest flights of any US carrier . They also try to market as a premium airline only in Polaris. Technology leader, there is no denying they have one of the best mobile apps and websites.
American, I don’t know. I flew them recently in domestic MCE and it seemed to be a discount carrier in full-service clothing. Coming off a Delta A321neo inbound vs an AA A321neo outbound, it felt bare bones. There is no RSE, no mood lighting, and thin seats. They have the same thin armrests you see on Spirit and Frontier. Lastly, all the announcements are automated. From the welcome abroad, fasten your seatbelt and get ready for landing.
Even thanking AA elites is a recording; talk about showing you care. The only thing personal was the safety demonstration done by the cabin crew, as they had no TVs on board. Also, on this 5-hour flight. They didn’t load any food for purchase; they did give those who wanted to buy a meal extra pretzels. Cabin crew didn't even apologize for those that asked for meals for purchase. They seemed indifferent like its normal to not have meals for purchase loaded.
Also the APP seems basic at best. Booking, seat changes just dumps you into your web browser, not even sure what's the point of the app then.
Wifi is also $29 delta has whole flight free wifi you just have to watch a 60 second advertisemen.
So what does AA strive to be? Genuinely curious and not trying to troll, as clearly many love AA, I believe it's the largest carrier by passenger volume.
