Debit card charged even after cancelling order

Hi. I recently got a large sum of money that I spent on several things, including products on Amazon. I ordered an item on the site but changed my mind soon afterwards, cancelling the order maybe less than 10 minutes after I first ordered it. I thought this would cancel the purchase since the item hadn't begun delivery yet, but when I check my bank account a couple hours later I see that I'm still missing the money I spent on the original purchase.

Does cancelling orders not refund spent money? Is there something else I have to do to get my money back?
