Okay, this is a weird one.
I've been an Echo user since beta. I still have the beta gen echo, in fact, though it's been moved to the bathroom since I got an Echo Show for the main area.
Those aren't the Echo's at issue here, however.
I have a first gen Dot that I keep in my toddlers room, mostly to control the lights and sometimes to play music for her. It's developed a strange issue, though. I'll give it a command, like, "Alexa, turn on Kid's Room Lights", and it responds that "Kid's Room doesn't have that capability". No matter how many times I repeat the simple command, it keeps insisting that the lights in the room can't be controlled. This happens probably 8 out of 10 times.
Well, one day I lost temper. I gave the command again, at a much increased volume, and proceeded by some vulgar personal insults. Something like, "ALEXA, YOU ******* ****, TURN ON KID'S ROOM LIGHT!" Instant compliance.
Since then, I have experimented with every variable I can, from volume and tone of my voice, where I am in the room, shouting versus shouting AND swearing... The only consistent result is that, if I add vulgarity between the wake word and the command, it works every time.
For context, I can control the lighting in that room from any other Echo device in the house with no issues. It's only when I'm addressing that particular first gen Dot.
Anyone ever seen anything like this, or maybe have an explanation? I'm not too worried about a fix, since I'm probably going to shift the 3rd gen Dot from my own room to hers, and get a 5" Show for my room (and a compatible baby monitor). At this point, I'm just curious.
