Icom R71-A Repair near Philadelphia?
Post Body

Hello all. I picked up an R71-A a while back because I found one for a decent price, and it's the "obtainable unicorn" tabletop that I've wanted since I first got into radio back in the 90's. The price was decent enough that I knew there would probably be some problems, and sure enough, the display is half dead. The radio seems to power up and receive fine- I've messed with it and pulled in stations that I haven't found on my R-1000 or RSP-1A, but the digits on the display are dead (the VFO indicator and other periphery light up, as does the decimal point- but not the numbers).

I thought about trying to replace the display board or do a recap myself, but since my soldering skills are fair to middling and the boards are pretty compact, I don't think this is where I want to begin to hone them... I know where to say I'm over my head.

Does anyone know of anyone in the Philly area that could check this unit out for me and possibly do the needed work to get her up and running again? For all I know it might not even need a recap but I'm not sure where to start. Any help would be appreciated.
