So I've been researching a lot about radio stuff in general because I am interested in eventually getting my ham radio license. I am wanting to get a radio to start tinkering with and listening to what's out there and in particular some military radio stations that have caught my interest, some of them are Russian, and I would like some opinions on which radios would suit my needs on picking up those particular frequencies. I included a link that has the radio stations I am interested in. I know enough that it will largely depend upon my antenna to pick up stations especially when they are a long range but from what I am seeing some radios only do UHF – VHF and others have more of a broad spectrum. Right now I am looking at a good 50 W radio that would be suitable for a base station and something that's affordable. If I had to pick a dollar amount for a budget I would say $450 just for the radio, it does not have to be 50 W it can be more if it falls within the price range. I apologize I ahead of time if these are noob questions, I'm in the process of learning, and I highly appreciate anyone's response and time and helping me figure this out. Another thing I am looking for is the ability to plug-in headphones, I am pretty sure all radios have that capability it's just a matter of adapters, but then again, I have no experience in this. Here's a list of radios I am looking at, it doesn't have to be any of these if there is a better option: Anytone At-778, Btech GMRS-50v2, TYT TH-9800D and Anytone AT-D578UVIII
