I recently watched The Alpinist- a small glimpse into the life of Marc-AndrƩ Leclerc, and reflections from some of the people who were closest to him. While his style of alpinism was extremely far removed from any of my own days out/pursuits, I was still in awe of how someone found their deep calling to the mountains and had such support to seek a life that was so personally meaningful for them.
For me, I didnāt grow up in the mountains, but they are now a big part of my life. I have grown to love the independence and fulfillment Type II fun gives me. Being on an adventure in the wilderness takes me out of the everyday, standard grind and reminds me how small and insignificant I am in the grand scheme of things. Sprinkle in a little Type III āfunā (never intended, but it somehow sneaks its way in every now and again š) and thatās a good reminder that life is pain and suffering, and not to be controlled. But when you come out of that, itās light. And itās wholesome. And itās alright.
