TL;DR - I am recklessly enthusiastic and I lose "the line" more than I'd care to admit. What helps you find your way?
So I am going on what will be my 3 attempted climb above treeline. Grade III, nothing like Patagonia. The first two were met with rain at sunrise, wooo!!! Anyways, we will be going to Hallet Peak. Being new to climbing, it turns out that I am atrocious at route finding.
There are dozens of resources for almost every area I go to. But I end up flying past belay "ledges", taking the wrong crack up and other assorted shenanigans. I get into a groove and don't realize it until I hear that I'm fucked with a call of "2-0 feet," and a vertical finger crack 30 ft in either direction.
I also have a somewhat difficult time finding "the base" of the climb. Sometimes it can be a general area, I get that. The descriptions of others seem to indicate that there is a precise location that must be adhered to, or so help you god.
What are your methods for finding the lines, and/or recording them prior?
