Dear Players!

Two weeks ago we performed a special experiment which was intended to test a new optimized way of loading assets in the game, and we are happy to announce that it has been successful! Now we decided to apply the same method for all objects in the game, which should improve the overall performance when loading new locations and equipping clothes and armor. It appeared that low poly models are now loaded 1.2 times faster, and high poly models are loaded more than 2 times faster than before!

The new optimization gives us the possibility to improve the graphics of the game. Alicia's original assets were developed many years ago, at the time when computers and graphic cards were much slower than they are today, which is why the textures look pixelated due to their low resolution, and the models look blocky due to their low polycount. Today, computers are much faster and can easily handle much higher resolution models and textures. We also tested high poly models in the game and it appears that the engine can handle them quite well.

Therefore we are considering to gradually improve 3D models of the game by increasing the polycount, which will give them a smoother and more detailed look. Also, we consider improving texture size and quality. We might even add normal maps to the game: these are special textures which simulate high poly details on a more low poly mesh. They allow to display very fine details on a 3D model, and they are used in almost all modern games.

However, Alicia has a large amount of models and textures, which means that it would take us a very long time to rework all of them. Therefore, we would like to ask if you are interested to help us. We are looking for people who already have some experience with 3D modeling/texturing for games, as well as sculpting high poly meshes and baking texture maps.
