Hello all. Sober for 6 years and fell off the wagon HARD about a month ago. Very humbling experience. Anywho, today marks one month sober. One day at a time 🙂.
Let me begin by saying I know this isn't healthy or helpful for my sobriety/mental health, but it's what I've been doing.
To cope with the cravings at night before going to sleep, I'll sit on my phone in bed and spend 10 minutes or so reading booze reviews. I've been reading through reddit's alcohol subs (/bourbon, /brandy, /rum, etc), reading reviews on Total Wine's website, and watching YouTube reviews of booze. Something about hearing people describe what a whiskey is like "on the nose," "on the palate," etc, is kind of therapeutic and actually helps with the cravings. Almost like I'm experiencing the drink vicariously through them, and it satisfies my cravings significantly.
Again, I know it's probably not a good idea to have booze on my mind every day, but it DOES help my cravings late at night, which is usually when they're the worst for me. Wondering if anyone else has done this before or if I'm just weird LOL.
And quick FYI -- yes, I do all of the normal recovery things -- lift weights and cardio, get loads of sunshine on walks with my wife every day, AA meetings, stay busy with hobbies, etc.
