Reading “Drop The Rock” in a Sponsor/Sponsee bookstudy…
Post Body

Definitely don’t agree with everything it has to say about 6&7. Some of the readings are a little preachy regarding sex, diet, and exercise IMO.

But, I do appreciate what it had to say regarding personal accountability and not adopting a cult like mentality in AA. I’ve seen a lot of people follow direction (especially regarding medical/mental health) in AA without being given the opportunity to ask questions. Of course there are those who seem to be resistant to taking ANY direction from another alcoholic… But, I personally would never back the “sit down and shut up” approach to sponsorship/AA.

“It is a cunning trap. It can happen at work. It can happen with a boss. It can happen in the Program. We must be very careful to stay accountable. To ask ques- tions. To ask our Higher Power. To pray. It is important to question. That is how we learn. Those who say ‘Shut up and lis-ten; you'll learn more with your mouth closed and your ears open’ are sometimes the very people afraid to question their own lives. It doesn't matter if we are new in recovery or have thirty years. We need to question what goes on around us and what is happening in our own life”.
