Hello! I’m an alcoholic and my name is Rudderham. I’m about 1.5yrs sober and always raise my hand at the end of my home group as willing to sponsor.
A fellow alcoholic with 2 months asked me to sponsor them and I said yes absolutely, but then found out that this person already has a sponsor and is reading the BB with them. But he said they aren’t “doing” the steps. He said he likes this sponsor, but they can only meet once a week and it sounds like he wants to fill more of his time with other AA’s, which I get.
I want to support this fellow in any way I can, but after some research it seems that only having 1 sponsor is recommended, and I understand why. I suggested to him that he ask his current sponsor to do the steps with him and he said OK, but should he ask me to ‘take over’ as his sponsor, as he has alluded to, what do I do?
Do I humbly accept and start the book over with him? Or do I explain that it’s not recommended to shop around and to stick with his current sponsor? Or an option #3?
Any advice is much appreciated. I am grateful for all of you and this program for my sobriety!
