"recovered alcoholics"
Post Body

My home group has had several people that have started introducing themselves as "Hi, I'm XYZ, recovered alcoholic" and I completely and totally disagree with doing this. I have yet to hear such a thing at any AA or NA meeting except for my home group. They say it gives hope to newcomers, I say it gives newcomers the impression of "cured". I also feel it's somewhat a touch of arrogance applies to calling yourself a recovered alcoholic, while you may be "in recovery", you're setting yourself apart, on a pedestal. I also feel like these people are lying to themselves, because one who has fully recovered would not longer be powerless over alcohol. What do y'all think about this? Has anyone else seen this occur and am I not thinking about it appropriately?
