I am just asking this out of pure curiosity. I'm a naturally curious person, so I do enjoy learning about the "science" behind alcoholism, while also being convinced that the spiritual aspect of AA played a big role in getting me to where I am (almost 15 months sober).
Do you believe that alcoholism is genetic? My paternal grandmother was an alcoholic, but that was something I didn't learn until my mid-20s, as she got sober right before I was born, and it was somewhat kept a secret from me/not talked about (typical Irish Catholic family lol). I also have an uncle in the program on my mom's side of the family. Again, this is curiosity and just meant to see what others opinions, beliefs are when it comes to genetics/the science behind alcoholism.
I have also been learning about how heavy drinking (from a scientific standpoint) causes us to cross that "invisble line", and I also believe I crossed that YEARS ago! Just want to know some fellow AAers thoughts!
Thanks for reading, contributing, and being a MAJOR part of my recovery :)!
