I may be up the creek here, but I'm hoping someone has some advice. Short story is, I put a down payment on a transaction to buy a car privately with a loan from a dealership (NEVER DO THIS. I WAS STUPID). The seller bowed out and so I had to cancel the deal. The dealership (RightRide) already had my down payment on it through e-Transfer.
This was in December 2022. It's been 4 months of me calling and them giving me BS excuses (Payroll is busy, Check comes from Head Office, Not in the office, etc, etc). I read up on the laws in AB and apparently there's nothing stopping them from keeping the deposit. Honestly I don't even know if they are deliberately stringing me along or if they are just 100% unmotivated to get it back to me. Every week it's a new delay or excuse.
Is there anything I can do here? Am I just SOL?
*edit* I got a direct response to my email saying that they would resolve this. Will update when/if resolved.
