Thinking about transferring with my job to Alaska.. need some advice.

Post Body

Sooo I’m a wanderlust kind of guy.. I love living in new places. Alaska has always been on my list of places I’d like to live even if for only a little bit of time. There’s a position with my job that I can put in for (today is actually the last day I have that I can put in for it so I’m in a bit of a time crunch to make a decision) and I can’t find much online about the areas. One position is in Galena and the other one is in Emmonak.

I guess what I’d like to know is how is the housing market in those areas? What is the rental situation like? Is cost of living super outrageous out there? I would get a cost of living adjustment if I took the positions there so I’m guessing it’s a little pricier. I’m from the Midwest so cold and snow isn’t really a deterrent for me but how bad does it get in both of those places snow/cold wise? What is the lifestyle like in either of those cities? Also, what cities are nearby enough to those that I could live in instead that wouldn’t make for a terrible commute if need be?

I appreciate any and all help/advice. Thanks in advance!
