Husband has a corrections officer job offer at Lemon Creek. Take home pay after taxes will be 5600 a month or around 68000/year (after taxes and other deductions. Its 85000 before that).. We have a 9 month old daughter in tow. I've spent hours and hours everyday doing research on Juneau and the cost of living. I've gathered that 69000 is the general consensus from a lot of 2023 cost comparisons. I wanted to hear from locals though. I planned on attending community College and getting a part time job if we qualify for CCAP. If not he will be the sole bread winner. I just have a scared feeling it's not enough to justify the move. It's 2.5x what he makes now, but with the cost of living there I feel like we may be trading one poverty situation for another. Can any locals tell me if that income is enough living frugally?
You say you've done a bunch of research, but there's no community college in Juneau. You have UAS-Juneau.
If that's one income, you'll struggle. Rent is high and hard to find, average house prices are astronomical. Please visit. It is very expensive in Juneau and can be a struggle if you've never lived on an island with less than 50 miles of continual drivable road.
I'm not trying to convince you not to come. Come or don't. It's just reality- you're asking for locals and their experience. I'm giving you that. Visit. First.
I made no personal comments to op. I think the advice is solid and realistic. If you have more to add, please do.
No kidding. I thought the first rule of the internet was "don't assume tone". I even used the word please. So rude of me.

I'm sorry that you found it rude. Hopefully people only tell you nice things about Juneau.
