Perplexed on why the alu panels lap this way. Allows water to go right in once sealant fails. Could have just lapped top panel over bottom and would not need sealant. Seems to be why I have sopping wet floor edges :-\

It has to do with the order and way in which the trailer is assembled. First, you have the frame. Then the subfloor with the c-channel around it. Then the rounded shell needs to be riveted directly to the c-channel for stability. The c-channel is what connects the shell of the airstream to the frame. Finally, the belly pan is wrapped up and round the edges of the airstream. Since it is not as important for the structural stability of the Airstream, it doesn't need to be connected directly to the c-channel with buck rivets. It can be connected with pop rivets. This also makes the underbelly panels much easier to remove and replace. (Speaking as someone who just replaced them all on a 70s 31 footer.) Yes, it's not the best waterproofing wise, but it makes sense from an assembly standpoint.
