Security forces currently in an AGR spot been in for 13 years and 10 active. Been an E-5 for 6 years. Our spots only open up if someone leave and currently the next spot isnt going to open up for at least 4 years. What is the military standard for retention and moving rank. I'm stuck in this spot unless some leave and I know from active duty the air force likes to see people move up.
When you are an AGR and are in a job/base with limited upward mobility, you need to look at other AFSCs or other squadrons. I spent years in SF at my base, stuck as a SSgt. I was always told "so and so is getting out and that will open a TSgt billet" but after a couple years of that after I was already eligible to promote, I'd had enough so I went for a TSgt AGR spot in Personnel and changed AFSCs to promote. If you want to stay a 3P0, you'll need to look elsewhere in your state/wing/group.
