Making french fries for the first time in air fryer. Need some help.

I am using sweet potatoes
Searched some recipes online and they mentioned boiling the french fries first which is weird to me.
Do I have to boil the fries before putting them in the airfryer?
I would like to avoid boiling if possible.
I am also not using any oil
