Eup on AC metal with UA tickets?

Booked a flight with a UA credit through UA completely on AC metal. Had to visit AC website for seat selection which I was able to do including my aeroplan benefits of free premium seat selection. However, the flight shows as not eligible for eupgrade. I assume this is because I booked with a UA ticket. Anyway around that or am I out of luck?
