Thanks in advance for your input! I'm a small time luthier, building electric guitars for several years. I've done a lot of finishing with HVLP systems and they've always seemed really wasteful and messy to me. Way too much overspray and so on. I'm now in the process of relocating my shop to a one-car garage, which is a challenge, like playing Tetris with heavy equipment. I have a design for a compact, stowable little spray area that I can set up when needed, but I'm done with HVLP. It won't work in this space and it's a mess.
Airbrushing sounds perfect for my needs, but I'm definitely in a weird niche and I'm having trouble finding the right setup. I have done a lot of finishing by various methods, but I've never so much as touched an airbrush. So far, here are my needs:
- large-ish capacity for paint, as I need to cover a guitar body or neck entirely with each coat and I don't want to have to refill a tiny cup multiple times
- trigger action brush, because I have some arthritis and hypermobility issues with my hands
- more of a fan spray capability
- compact, quietish compressor
And of course I'd like all that for $150, but I know that's not possible. I can save my pennies for a while if I need to. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
