Guest wants to cancel non-refundable booking

I don’t mind them cancelling, they booked the non refundable and have inquired about their trip plans being different. I don’t want to be penalized financially though. Do I offer a refund for my payout amount or go through the tech support/customer service center and coke to a resolution? What’s the easiest way for me to no be penalized?
