I'm asexual and I'm fine with not being included in the LGBT+ community
Post Body

*Idk if this is the right sub for this discussion, but it seems like it is. Anyway-

I'm not saying this with any hatred in my heart. Honestly, I'm coming at this objectively. I feel like it doesn't make sense to include asexuals in the LGBT community because our experiences are so different. And it's not as simple as "we're not oppressed enough", although that is part of it (and in fact, aces still face their own shit, like conversion therapy and corrective rape and even being denied from adopting children on some occasions.)

Where I'm coming from is, the experiences of aces and the rest of LGBT are pretty different. There are a lot of things I can't relate to, and going to LGBT events, I feel like I don't belong. No one has ever made me feel that way. In fact, the community has been really welcoming and open-armed. But when y'all talk about same-sex attractions and whatnot, I can't relate. And I'm not gonna be the guy that goes "NOT MEEEE! I DON'T!" when you talk about sex stuff. That's just being a dick.

But then there is the matter of fact that we don't share the same struggles. I'll never have to fight for my right to not fuck somebody. Sure, aces deal with coming to grips with themselves and figuring this shit out, but it's not really the same. "Fighting" for society to recognize that asexuality is legitimate, let alone knowing wtf it is, isn't the same thing as actually fighting for rights.

Look, all I'm trying to say is I'm personally fine with you gatekeeping us out of the community, and if you agree, you can say so here and I'm not going to cancel you. If you've been faking your acceptance this whole time, I'd actually rally like to know. Don't hold back now, ya hear? And this is nothing against the LGBT community. You guys are awesome and cool and I wish you the best. but I don't think asexual is queer enough, and this is coming from an actual ace.
