Do contestants pay a royalty after appearing on show?
Post Body

OK so I'm hoping someone here can settle an argument between my boyfriend and I. He says that anyone who makes a career off the show (which is basically anybody who appears for a live audition) has to pay a percentage on whatever they make in perpetuity.

I have no idea where he got this idea but can't find any information corroborating or denying this claim but it sounds outright illegal.

He passionately believes he's correct so I'd love to win this argument.
