I have seen Simon do this in past seasons, something that he never seemed to do on American Idol. He has a favorite, and he is panning the other best acts in order to subtly promote his act.

Case in point, Chris Klafford wrote a song that, though not my cup of tea, could be on the radio tomorrow. Not to mention, that performance would surely have won him almost any season of Idol. Yet, Simon started in about hearing the song before, but then switched gears and said that he should have sang the song that Simon thought that he was singing.

I won't speculate on who his favorite is, except to say that he does have an affinity for child acts and opera music.
