More season 4 confusion

Post Body

So, binged all of season 4 last night, and like some other people, itā€™s left me a bit miffed for various reasons. However, most of those reasons have already been discussed so I wanna bring up something that I noticed while I was watching, and thatā€™s how purely unrealistic the business with Ton was conducted in this season.

Before I begin, Iā€™d like to say that Iā€™m not an accountant nor any sort of financial advisor, and more importantly, Iā€™m not Japanese. So if I say anything that doesnā€™t pertain to either accounting or Japanese workplaces, Iā€™d love to be educated.

Ton, as a character, could have been executed so much better. He showed a real good side to him by not firing anyone and standing firm on that, and I liked it. But he learned nothing after being fired, and continued to be a miserable asshole to everyone that was nice to him, which soured it in my opinion. But that was just his character, and they entirely butchered the business aspect of his character. Ton was just about to celebrate his 40th(or maybe 30thā€¦ I canā€™t remember right now, but itā€™s the same thing either way) year with the company, which is a long time to be with a single company. Not only has be been there for forty years, but heā€™s a high ranking employee, on a first name basis with the CEO. So surely in light of that, he has not only been being paid a good amount, but also has been building a pension/401k for the past 40 years. He would absolutely have enough money to be able to live for a while and look for a job, or possibly even retire. But in the show, he did have to find work again to pay the bills. Fair enough, I suppose. But he got a job at a convenience store??? Youā€™re telling me a man with decades worth of experience as a high level manager, with recommendations from the CEO couldnā€™t land even a basic accounting job? That has to be a joke that I didnā€™t get or something. I know they tried to do the whole ā€œoh, but heā€™s old and doesnā€™t get technologyā€ thing, but he knows how to use a computer, he had one on his desk when he was the manager, so who cares if he uses an abacus to do math?

Thank you, rant over.
