so im in a situationship at the moment. me and my friend want to date each other. we both acknowledge that we dont want to date other people. however life is kicking both of our butts. both of our grandparents are dying coincidentally. and just work and life issues. both of us are extremely stressed but handle it differently. when im stressed i try to get closer to people i care for comfort. and for him he pulls into himself and just kinda bottles everything. our contact has been up and down. mainly me texting for my own comfort and him checking in every few weeks which ive expressed that im okay with him doing because i know people handle greif and stress differently but as long as he was still checking in. this has gone on for 5 months now and he seems to be in a bit of a darker place rn. im trying really hard to be supportive and let him know im here but also kinda giving him space. however lately hes expressed that he wishes he could give 100% and be there for me. amoung other normal guy things to say ie. " your to good for me. " (the same line ive heared from 6 different guys through my life)

i really want to ask him a question about if he even still wants to date me but im scared of his awnser because i dont want to lose such an amazing person. hes the greenest green fllag ive meet i dont want to lose that connection. how long is to long to fight for your person and to hold out?? i know people have different opinions on fighting for your person these days and how long is acceptable to hold out. personally its just how im hard wired ive always been a fighter and dont belive in just letting go of someone because lifes hard. i have no clue what to do and its okay if none of you guys do eaither im just trying to figure out stuff
