How do leaders work?

Post Body

Hello good people of the community! Posted a few questions on here already (brand new to AOS) and got some really helpful replies so thought I'd give it another go!

I'm collecting the Flesh Eater Bret- excuse me, flesh eater courts, and on the warscroll it often mentions a leader. For example, with Crypt Ghouls, it says 'the leader of this unit is a Crypt Ghast.' Also, it states that the unit size is 10, and 'add one to the attacks characteristic of the Crypt Ghast.'

So can I ask, how does a leader work? There is no such thing as a simple 'Crypt Ghast' but there is a 'Crypt Ghast Courtier' who is a single model hero type unit so I assume I build that model but he doesn't work the same as he would if he were operating at a single model?

Also, I assume I don't build 10 Ghouls and a ghast for 11 models, but one of the 10 must be a ghast?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
