So, I haven't played for a while, and a buddy of mine offered to play a tune-up game so I wouldn't feel so rusty on the rules.
I had my daemonettes out, so I quickly tossed together a 1500 point army lead by my Keeper, figuring "I'll be able to go over all the base mechanics".
Turn 1, he goes first, cast a spell on my keeper so anyone attacking it can reroll all hits, then his 30 man bloc of archers casts a spell allowing them to do MW's on 5's and 6's, and fires at my keeper, rerolling everything except the 5's and 6's.
13 mortal wounds, plus 4 saves, I miss two. Keeper dead.
My turn, I run up with two blobs of daemonettes and a set of seekers. first one fails the charge, even with the reroll. Second one makes the roll, but the archers "Unleash hell" daemonette unit mortal wounded off the table. Seekers come in, kill a single model then they get MW'd off the table by the spearmen.
So at the end of 1, I've got a whopping 3 depravity points, my warlord and two units are dead. Turn two, I get my daemonettes up and they charge a different unit, who MW's them off the table. I submit. Literally I can do nothing against this list.
What the heck is an army supposed to do against something like this? He purposely said to not do 2k, because then he'd be able to bring Teklis and that "was worse".
He admitted afterwards that maybe he shouldn't have brought the archers, but he was also fairly confident his cavalry would have done pretty close to the same thing.
Now doing some reading, I'm seeing Hedonites are pretty bad right now, but how does any army deal with buckets of MW's like that? Do multiple armies have the ability to chuck buckets of MW's like that?
I'd like to start playing regularly again, but mechanics like that seem ridiculous to me to try and deal with.
EDIT - Just so it's said - there was no cheating. Jeez. We're two good friends just having a bit of fun. The terrain dice are the gee-dubs made dice. We were rolling them back and forth and that's just the way they went. Simple mistake on the unleash hell.
EDIT 2: From my buddy - "But yeah, sorry about that. I tried it against <player in our group> and she owned me. Probably because I couldn't kill Morathi right away. So I didn't think it was going to be so bad against you. Typically you take something bad and make it Uber. That's your superpower."
He's not a dick. LOL. I have a bit of a reputation.
