The confusing morality surrounding the use of Cap's blood.
Post Body

There are so many things wrong with how the writers handled this. It's the one thing that I dislike about the show.

Firstly, I'll get Stark's deceit out of the way. Yes, Stark is a douchebag and should not have lied to Carter. That said, he made it very clear that there was serious potential benefits in its application in medicine. This is where the problems start, and I fear the writers backed themselves into a corner.

Peggy (and by extension, the writers) take a clear moral stance against the pharmaceutical industry. This is absolutely understandable, Big Pharma is rife with morally repugnant practices. Iron Man takes an overt stance against the military/industrial complex, so this show isn't alone in exploring these themes.

What can Carter do about any of this? She's not going to bring down capitalism, so for practicality's sake her options are: dispose of the blood, or let Stark actually do some good. Boo hoo, he'll make big profits out of it....and perhaps save lives. Carter's stance in this regard simply doesn't stand up to scrutiny. She was understandably upset at being used and was grasping for ways to shame Stark for it. Also, how the hell does she know what Cap's position on Big Pharma would be? Why is Carter the only one (according to Jarvis) should be able to decide what happens to this miracle of science?

Then it became about Carter's need for closure. It just gets worse. Compared to the good use that his blood can be put to, what possible significance should one single person's grief hold? Would it not be better to see Captain America's legacy continue to save lives beyond the grave? Nope, let's poor it down the drain so I can move on. I, me, myself. I expected better from a character like Carter.

It's a shame that this one thing was so poorly handled because I thought the show was very intelligently written otherwise. I actually support the moral stance itself, but it was just so badly-executed in my opinion.
