yesterday FRD's mod team, responding to the public exodus of one of the subreddit's only feminist-flaired users, made a post inviting feminists to talk candidly about the state of feminist participation in the subreddit. the OP made it clear that they wouldn't be punished for speaking their minds, and that "this thread is for feminists and feminist-leaning users only".

that would have been pretty cool i guess, if that's what really happened. however in true FRD fashion, the thread was predictably awful.

at the time of writing, there were 175* comments in the thread. let's take a look at how some of those numbers break down:

*11 comments appear to be hidden by CSS and aren't included in the breakdown (though i suspect they're deleted posts by MRAs)

congratulations FRD! in a thread that only feminists were allowed to participate in, you managed to get a whole 34% feminist comments. i knew you could do it.

Q: Of the 30 comments in the thread by FRD moderators, how many were replies to feminists?

A: 10. two thirds of responses are to people who shouldn't be posting in the thread in the first place.

Q: of those 10 comments, how many are on the subject of making the subreddit more welcome to feminist participation?

A: just one. the others are mostly justifications for certain specific mod decisions and a #NotAllCisHets when someone points out that queer people are marginalized by cis/het people.

Q: of the 14 top level comments by feminists in the thread, how many have a response from a moderator that acknowledges their concerns?

A: just that same one from above. i guess 7% ain't bad.

so there we have it. FRD claims it wants to engage with feminists, but lets the thread designed to do just that devolve into whatever the opposite of that is. also: bonus /r/FemraMeta bravepost complaining about le censorship!
