So, Simon and Betty huh?

So, with episode eight we finally see the beginning of Simon and Betty's relationship! And with that, we see that as romantic and loving as it was, there was certainly a toxic aspect to it as well.

In the original series, it's pretty clear that the two are very codependent, especially when it came to Betty towards Simon. I noticed a lot in 'Fionna and Cake' about a definite power difference in their relationship that had existed since it's beginning.

Betty was a fan of Simon's from the start, she loved his work and near idolised him. Also the fact that though Simon calls her Betty when they meet and on their expedition, Betty insists on calling him Petrikov or Dr. Petrikov. It's unfortunately true that fans that date their idols will always have a power imbalance in their relationship and it is impossible to get rid of. Simon should have also gotten on that bus with her, just as she came with him. Though she did kind of invite herself to the expedition, I personally think what Simon said he meant more jokingly rather than an actual invite to join him.
