My brother (8 years older than me(25m)) always had a really hot temper growing up. Anything I did or said could set him off at any moment. I remember having a lot of black eyes and bloody noses as a kid. The beatings went on from when I started walking up until I was 10. As time went on, it started to seem like he enjoyed hurting me more and more. He used to pin me down and smother me with a pillow or blanket almost to the point I'd black out. I grew up in fear of him.
After he graduated high school, he enlisted in the army and did a tour in Kuwait. He came back a changed man. He started trying to repair our relationship, but never brought up how he used to treat me. A few months ago I confided in a mutual friend, and she turned around and told him what I said. A few days later he came up to me and told me to stop telling lies. He said I was being a drama queen, and that everything he did to me is the same thing all big brothers do to their little brother. He sees it as just innocent hazing.
Is he right and I just need to toughen up, or was this abuse?
