I was under quite some stress this week and possibly pushing myself beyond my limits (working every waking hour since last week to finish an assignment for a job interview while simultaneously finishing off my previous job, then my cat becoming ill). I often have gastrointestinal issues and since my doctor has only done basic blood work and said "you're fine, it's just stress", I'm trying out diets together with a dietician to resolve my issues. I'm currently doing FODMAP. On Tuesday, my bf made something that was probably a bit too spicy (but still low FODMAP) causing me to have diarrhea. On Wednesday (the day before the job interview), I didn't have time to cook so I order out (trying to make it as low FODMAP as possible, but it could have included some spices that I'm not allowed to eat). I also drank two cokes (which I'm allowed on low FODMAP but maybe the caffeine caused a reaction?). I started feeling nauseous and having to vomit. Afterwards, I was having heart palpitations and my heart rate was elevated for the entire night. I normally have a resting heart rate of 60-70 BPM and it was 80-90BPM for the entire night. So it's not really alarmingly high, but it 20BPM higher than normal and my chest was pounding. I tried to do deep breathing, since I know this has a direct effect on heart rate. It sometimes helped for 5 minutes, but the minute I resumed my normal breathing it would elevate again.
Any of these factors seperately wouldn't cause me to have such an extreme reaction. I can normally sleep quite easily. I sometimes have caffeine. Every once in a blue moon, I feel a bit more nervous afterwards, but most of the time I don't have any effect of caffeine. I've also tested most of the spices that could have been in the take out that I've ordered and never had a reaction this severe.
I was wondering whether anyone else has had a similar reaction? What concerns me most is the elevated heart rating lasting for the entire night and not being responsive to the deep breathing. I'm also at a bit of a loss about what exactly could have triggered this. Is this realted to adrenal fatigue? I burned out a few years ago and since then I've noticed my body is less able to handle stress, but even taking that into account this reaction still seems quite severe to me.
