Trouble installing mark2 on Ubuntu 12.10/13.04 (64 bit)

I've had success with using mark2 in the past, but I recently switched over to a new VPS host. I'm not a linux noob, but I'm not a pro either. I've installed mark2 properly straight from a fresh install, but whenever I try and start the server (mark2 start /path/to/server.jar), or use the jar-get command it just straight up hangs until the SSH session times out. Most other mark2 commands work fine, like jar-list, config, help, etc. I've double and triple checked dependencies and I even downgraded my distro from 13.04 to 12.10 (Currently still on 12.10, in my dependency research there was some issue with one of the twisted packages and 13.04, IIRC) and still no dice. Could it possibly have something to do with different virtualization from my VPS providers?

Anyways, any help is greatly appreciated, it'd be nice to be able to use this excellent program once again.
