DAE find I non ADHD’ers boring and hard to hang out with?
Post Body

I get along with pretty much anyone but if we’re talking about someone I would want to give up my weekend to spend time with. I really only have a handful of people and they all have ADHD. It’s like me as an introvert with ADHD naturally gravitates to extroverts with ADHD.

I feel like most other people are actually incredibly boring and it’s a chore making conversation.

Is this just me?

Thank you for saying this, I‘ve been feeling similarly.

I have an adhd friend I love and she shares the view stated in this post. She has often told me how much she appreciates hanging out with me because she can unmask and just be herself. I haven‘t had the heart and words to tell her that I unfortunately don‘t feel the same way.

I feel like my adhd makes it harder for me to deal with hers. Examples:

  • impulsivity and RSD: she will say things impulsively that are really hurtful and are made harder to deal with due to my RSD.

  • impatience and difficulty to focus: she is very quick to say I‘m taking too long on my turns when playing games. My adhd makes it really hard for me to making decisions when people are talking, esp. if they‘re talking to me.

  • interrupting and distractability: I really struggle with people interrupting me because I lose my train of thought so fast and it upsets and exhausts me.

Mind you, I deal with all symptoms listed. I just don‘t ‚unmask‘ them, i.e. stop trying to avoid certain behaviours, around other people just because they also have adhd. I know that she would be very upset if I ever got impatient and told her she was taking too long.

All this to say: Yes, someone whose brain works similarly to yours is awesome to have as a friend. But them having the same quirks might also cause issues.

Also: I hate for people to say certain people (NT) are straight up boring. Have we actually been listening to them or do we always feel like we ‚already know what they’re going to say’ anyway? As was mentioned, we don‘t know who‘s NT, but we also do not know shit about certain people. It‘s ok not to want to hang out with certain people, however I think it’s shitty to say that THEY are boring.

Fucking mood. They might be on my wavelength, but sometimes my wavelength is ‚pompous annoying jerk‘.

Would you mind elaborating?
