Hi everyone. I'm looking for something to help get me in better shape physically with my stamina/activity levels. I've been in crisis mode for so long it hasn't been on my plate, but I want to start thinking about goals in the future and being ready to enjoy them. One of my main upcoming goals is to go to Europe and I want to be able to comfortably walk and explore while I'm there.
I'm currently fat, but don't want to focus on weight loss as a goal. I find that very counterproductive and demotivating for me.
I was thinking about something like a couch-to-5k plan, but with the goal of just being able to hike and stuff without it being exhausting.
I have had limited success with biking on a trainer in my room while watching subtitled shows I have to really focus on, but I think I need to pair it with some kind of motivation/accountability and/or other activities. I'm super poor right now so I can't afford classes/gym/complicated equipment - though I've thought about trying to get an affordable second-hand treadmill or something to give me some variety.
My questions are these:
- Does anyone know of any programs/communities that could be a good fit for both the ADHD and the desire to not focus on weight loss?
- What tactics have you personally used to accomplish these goals?
- Is there some structured program I can follow, like couch-to-5k, but that is a better fit for my goals?
- I've found that keeping a focus on WHY I am doing a thing (e.g. being able to hike around easier) is really key to me making time for it. Do you have any good ideas/inspiration for how I might keep this goal front and center and remind myself of the future reward to help cope with the present debilitating tedium?
Any other helpful advice is welcome. I want to focus on exercise only, not diet - I'm happy there. Thank you in advance!
