I got my pills out this morning and set the daily container I keep them in on my coffee table next to my laptop like I always do. I walked away to make breakfast and coffee and when I got back I discovered that one of my cats had knocked it over and had clearly chewed my Adderall.
Disclaimer, she is a smaller cat, adult just small. I am only on 10mg ER currently.
The pill had definitely been chewed on and there were little marbles all over the floor but way less than what is normally in a capsule. Most likely it was this one cat that is always getting into stuff so I rushed her to the vet where they are observing her throughout the day while I keep an eye out on the other 2 I have at home.
ADHD meds can basically cause cats to overdose which can lead to seizures and what they call serotonin syndrome.
UPDATE so the cat is fine so far, should be able to pick up this evening as this vet doesn't do overnight watching. If I feel more comfortable, I can take her to the ER but she should have all the Adderall out of her system around 9pm est. So I really only have to make sure she doesn't have a seizure in the span of like 3-5 hours after we get her home.
UPDATE 2 cat is home and just a little wobbly walking around from the sedative they had to give her. She took the activated charcoal like a champ though so they are very happy with where she is health wise. Will continue to monitor her tonight though and alert them if anything goes wrong in the morning. Thank you all for the kind words. We appreciate them!
