The Devil's Warm Embrace
It starts as soft as whispered hope,
A fleeting dream, a spark, a rope,
To pull you from the endless night,
And fill your veins with borrowed light.
The promise comes with soothing breath,
Of peace, of joy, of sweet release,
But lies are stitched within the seams—
The warmth you seek will steal your dreams.
The devil’s voice, so sweet, so near,
Coaxes you to drown your fear,
A taste of fire, a taste of air,
A fleeting bliss, a thoughtless prayer.
You close your eyes, you let it in,
Not knowing where it will begin,
And slowly, softly, piece by piece,
The you you were starts to decrease.
It doesn’t kill you all at once,
It whispers softly of your wants,
And little by little, drop by drop,
The life you had begins to stop.
Your body wears, your mind it breaks,
You dance for nothing, for nothing’s sake.
It tells you lies, it makes you crawl,
You hear it now, but won’t recall.
The euphoria, it comes, it goes,
Like snowflakes falling, then it’s froze.
You search for warmth within the cold,
Chasing something you can’t hold.
The price is higher than you know,
For every high, your soul you owe.
But the devil's debt is never paid,
He’ll take your life, leave you afraid.
And then you find yourself adrift,
A hollow shell, a cracked rift,
Your future gone, your thoughts betrayed,
By empty promises that fade.
The truth is lost within the haze,
The joy you sought has turned to graves.
And in the dark, you know it’s true—
The one you’ve lost, it’s only you.
So here you stand, with nothing left,
A body beaten, mind bereft.
The devil smiles, his deal is done,
And whispers softly, “I’ve won.”
