We had been together since before the pandemic. In that time, I came out as a trans woman and she stopped talking to several toxic family members and moved into a place by herself for the first time. We had both grown so much over the past two years, but I guess our relationship was really built on that mutual support through challenging times, and now that we're both in much more stable places, we realized, in the words of Streetlight Manifesto, that we used to be in love, but now we're just in like.
We hope to remain friends in the future (for example, we're still planning on going to a show together later this week), but it hurts a lot right now so I can't really think about that future.
