I'm 26 a barista, stem and apparently oblivious. A woman I would describe as fem came into my café.
She bought a drink and she looked so pretty and kind of dressy... that is not the norm I southern California, so she caught my eye. I asked her where she was going, she seemed puzzled and I explained that she looked really nice and that I had naturally assumed she was going somewhere or doing something special. She said I was sweet and explained she was aiming for business casual because she had important meetings all day, but that she perhaps looked more dressed up than she thought.
I told her she looked great and we chated a bit during the transaction about how she wants to be taken seriously by the guys she works with.. I said something silly along the lines of "I get it, dress for success right?" She didn't fully agree... but quickly and smoothly chamged the subject to me...
This is where I messed up. Because I suddenly became rather bashful... I really hope she didn't notice. She asked my nationality, I explained that I am from Colombia (thats is s.america for those who don't know) and she then began to compliment me... I wanted to run so bad. I put on my social and smooth barista mask for work.. but it slipped. I smiled and she then complimented my smile....
I fucked up... I really did... I calmly and politely ended the transaction. "Oh thank you, okay so your drink will be right down there at the bar, here is your receipt. Have a good night" she smiled and said thank you like normal....
If this beautiful femme woman who was just so sweet, flirted... I totally shut her down... I didn't mean to... I just panicked... I typically get hit on by guys (why, I'm obviously gay) and never has a woman had the guts to just... try.
Anyway I'm now hoping it was just a fellow woman being kind and that it wasn't flirting and I didn't just blow it.... it could be a rare moment of female camaraderie, right?
