Help me flesh out the actions for my new Skeletal Tar Dragon!

Post Body

Hi all! My players are about to face down one of my most sinister creations yet and they're very excited. After visiting an ancient settlement built over a chasm, at the bottom of which is a deep bubbling tar pit, they find themselves on the receiving end of a powerful Deathlock's magic when he reanimated from the depths of the pit the skeleton of a long dead Adult Green Dragon! This is no Dracolich. Merely the bones of the powerful beast.

The creature emerging from the pit is covered in sticky tar! Forgoing a breath weapon the dragon can vomit tar in a 40" cone causing some fire damage and restraining the targets who fail their save. In addition hitting the creature with a weapon causes it to possibly become stuck! Tar pools out from the creature in a 20" aura making the area around it difficult terrain.

Pretty neat if I do say so myself! My girlfriend has suggested that maybe somehow the PC's can become engulfed in the monster's body, but I'm not sure how that will work. Or possibly a successful attack has the chance to grapple the target! My PC's are only level 6 so I wonder if that would be too much...

As for the meat of this. It needs a cool bonus action, reaction, and something neat to do on round 1, 2, and 3.

I've already figured out what I want to happen on round 2. The creature flaps its useless wings sending tar splattering everywhere. The players make a save or a glob of tar hits them in the face, blinding them for a round.

I still need something for the first and third round though. I like Matt's suggestion that the first round villain action should mainly be about positioning. I want to challenge them, not kill them.

When the creature dies it will explode with an eruption of tar in a 20" aoe dealing some fire damage. That's all I have for it so far. Any suggestions?
