I'm trying to decide on a midi and i can get a launchkey 49/61 new for $325 AUD. I really like the look of the seamless Ableton integration and how it looks like it'd basically replace the need for using my computer's keyboard when producing. But the keybed is kind of holding me back, as I'd like learn a bit of piano and the keys don't look so great, they seem plasticky & lack aftertouch. (i'm going to try demo it tomorrow).
I could also get these older used novations:
- impulse 49/61 - $300
- sl49 mk2 - $400
What's the integration like now that automap is discontinued? i'm on 10.14 so could still use automap i think, but i read that novation's custom mapping software is likely no longer supported for the sl mk2? These controllers are both pretty old so I imagine their integration (and future support) would be lacking vs launchkey?
For the same price I could also get:
- Akai MPK 249 - $350
- Arturia Keylab 49 ultimate - $400
- NI Komplete Kontrol S49 Mk 1 - $350
Does anybody have experience on how novation integration compares to NI/Arturia/Akai's? From research it seems everyone's experience differs but like if u were to use other people's scripts would it even come close to Novation's integration?
I'd really love to changeup my workflow by being able to easily use all the knobs/faders in ableton & with 3rd party synths/plugins, and to be able to navigate thru ableton tracks/samples with arrows like the launchkey does, but does any non-novation controller come close?
Which would u pick? I wish i could afford the sl mk3 but they're $900 here
