Synchronizing External Devices in Ableton: Clip Playback is starting the sequencer on external devices.
Post Body

Hi,

I have a synth (System-8) and drum machine (TR-8S) midi synced (via USB) to Ableton. Both are setup as external instruments. For simplicity, rather than routing individual TR8S instruments or using it as the interface, the master out of the TR-8S is sent to my audio interface (Focusrite 6i6 2nd).

Both the synth and drums are set to receive start stop messages from Ableton (RxStartStop: On).

In Ableton, I have a midi track for a Grand Piano and "External Instrument" tracks for the System-8 and TR-8S. Whenever I start the piano clip, Ableton is sending Start messages to the TR8S and the synth. So the Synth step sequencer and the TR8 step sequencer start playing.

I am trying to figure out how to route the Start/Stop msgs so that the instruments only start playback when I start their "own" clips.
