MIDI recording out of time due to latency? (electric drums)

Post Body

Hi all, sorry complete newb here.

I am recording electronic drums as MIDI in ableton to an audio file. After playing, when I listen back the part is delayed and not in time with the track due to the latency.

This is OK for me, I usually move the MIDI notes on the piano roll back manually by hand until it fits on the grid in the correct place

But someone has told me apparently Ableton is supposed to adjust for delay and so it shouldn't be necessary for me to manually do it

I have no issue with modifying the all the MIDI notes together manually, but when doing this it causes issue with my VST in that the hi-hat controller input (controlling opening and closing of hat) does not shift with the MIDI notes and is therefore out of time.

Please if someone can offer some help, as currently I am not able to record my drums properly after spending hundreds of pounds on Ableton and the Addictive Drummer 2 VST in the hopes of getting some good recordings done

Thankyou:)
