Audio/MIDI Plugin question

So i'm using a plugin called manipulator which can actually take MIDI input to alter the sound of an audio clip but Ableton doesn't let me use a MIDI controller on an audio track so I can't actually use a midi controller as an input whilst i'm trying to alter a audio clip on an audio track, does anyone know if there's a way around this or if i'm just being stupid? Thanks.
