Welcome to Nova Victoria!
This is the official subreddit for the Nova Victoria server, a Minecraft world of retro-futurism from the Victorian Age!
If you know the meaning of the term "Steampunk" then welcome home! You'll fit right in, marvelously. There's no questbook or progression to follow, because we're more focused on building and exploring our world.
We encourage you to do your own thing, and are happy to provide you with the means to do so!
Please note, there is very minimal magic here, and technology is mostly coal-powered (although, there are oil and petroleum capabilities for our Dieselpunk cousins).
The custom modpack (needed if you wish to join us) can be downloaded from this link on CurseForge.
The game server is at: 192.95.30.224:26980
And our Discord server is located here.
Check this subreddit often for updates about the server, the modpack, and in-world updates!
Our rules are simple:
Respect others (this includes their homes and property).
No "floating trees" please! You can chop down a tree completely by holding down left shift when you start chopping (this works while mining too!) so please don't leave the upper branches and leaves floating in mid-air.
No open quarries/mines. If you must build a quarry, at least put a fence around it so others don't stumble into it.
Above all else, have fun!
The world's day/night cycle is currently 45 real-time minutes of day, and 15 real-time minutes of night.
The world is currently 2,500 blocks square, but will expand as more people join.
If you want to claim a plot of land as your own, PLEASE put up signage with your name on it near your front door/gate! We currently have no limits on how large a plot you can own, as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else, or impede any of the world's natural towns/railways.
The standard unit of currency in Nova Victoria is the Cog. When you first join the World you are given 5,000 Cogs automatically, to help you get started outfitting yourself.
Additionally, each day (real-world 24-hour period) that you log in, you will receive an additional 50 Cog stipend. Spent wisely, this amount should help keep you solvent for a good long time. If you find yourself in need of more funding, both the Bank and the Mineral Exchange in the main City are available to you at any time.
Please note: Being absent from the World for more than 30 days will result in your balance being reset to 5,000 Cogs when you log back in.
You can spend your Cogs at any of the "vending machines" throughout the World. Looking at a vending machine will tell you what item is for sale, and what the current price is. Holding down Left-Shift while looking at a vending machine will give you additional details. Right-click a vending machine to make your purchase.
Railways criss-cross the World, at 250 block intervals. Additionally, "fuel vendors" are located at every other rail intersection if you find yourself low on fuel. It is a good idea to have a stack or two (a stack is 64 pieces) of suitable fuel with you any time you are driving an Automocart, or flying your Airship.
Our current server OPs are: SteampunkCharlie and Skunkieboo.
