EVENT BACKGROUND
The server will be running a persistent TvT Korean campaign of our making. Cecil and I are complete novices to campaign/theater creation and organized this whole event by ourselves so everything is pretty basic. This is intended to be an open community event so any constructive input or content is highly appreciated. (If someone could make an F-18 aggressor skin and send it to us we'll send nudes in return. I made a black one in MS Paint utilizing skills learned in 4th grade art class and I'm sure there's someone more talented out there that can show me up.)
SCENARIO
The Korean peninsula has been split in half by war. A hapless South Korean populace now turns to American Airpower to turn the tide of blah blah blah... Basically Red is North of the DMZ, Blue is south of it. Try and kill each other. The campaign is very very very rudimentarily balanced... I threw it together in a weekend and said "Looks Good." Well make changes/balancing updates as we go with your input but our intent was to get an event going as quickly as possible. We could have delayed launching the event while we tested the snot out of it but we decided to get something off the ground sooner rather than later.
BLUE FLYABLE AIRCRAFT
- F-16C Blk30/Blk40/Blk50
- F/A-18C Now with Carrier Ops!
- AV-8 Harrier II
- Tornado ADV/IDS-G/IDS-I
RED FLYABLE AIRCRAFT
- F-16C Blk30/Blk32 AGGRESSOR
- F/A-18C AGGRESSOR Now with carrier ops!
- Mig-29S/M
- M-2000EGM
See this image for an overview of the map.
RADIOS
- BLUE ALL TALK Uniform 16 on 318.100
- RED ALL TALK Uniform 17 on 359.300
The server will be running IVC on the same IP as the server. Make sure you hit "ENTER" after entering the IVC IP. We're not really sure how to host two different IVC IPs on the same server so for now everyone will have to use the same IVC IP. This means that it will be possible to listen in on the enemy team's comms if you switch to a frequency they're on. Were trusting you all to not spy on each other. If you're planning on discussing the top secret details of your mistress over all talk, you can always restrict your comm usage to TS. Outside of all talk, you can use whatever channel you want for intra-flight comms as long as someone else hasn't grabbed it already.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
(fun preventers.)
All aircraft will be forced to ramp start.
If you're flying a non F-16 aircraft, you'll have to map all the F-16 start keys so you can fire your jet up without looking like an idiot.
Nothing is off limits
All bases are available to be bombed and there are no target restrictions. The farther into enemy territory you fly, the more stiff the SAM coverage (I hope). As a result, deeper bases usually field better aircraft and defenses. That being said, if someone goes around and blows up all the enemy bases we'll probably tweak the campaign and restart.
If you can put it on your jet, its legal to use
All load out restrictions were accomplished through the campaign. We left everything vanilla for the most part except for standoff weapons. Standoff weapons are lame so we restricted most of them (I hope). If you discover some super overpowered weapon that you probably shouldn't be able to take, let us know and we'll fix it next update. We apologize in advance for all the squadrons we forgot to take nukes away from.
You can fly for whatever team
You can fly for either Red or Blue and swap at any time. If red has less air at the time, feel free to bolster their numbers. Yes you can swap sides and see where all the ground units are. Just don't be a see wiki etiquette #3 about it. However, I would assume that most of you would like to fly for one team the whole time so if you post your intended team below with your speed test I can hook you up with some nifty flair. Competitiveness isn't really the name of the game for this event. Were just looking to provide a solid TvT framework.
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
- Go to this nifty download link
- Install instructions are included in the readme with the theater download
- Make sure you restart BMS after changing theaters. No really. It like actually maters a lot.
SERVER CONNECTION POLICY
A speed test is required to be posted in this thread to be allowed to connect to the server
As the BMS community probably knows, server stability is heavily dependent on client upload. For this event, we are requiring 1.5Mb upload to be allowed into the event. As a result, everyone who wants to participate will be required to post an image of their upload/download to Jacksonville, FL USA along with their IP address. Once you post an image of a good speed test (or one close enough, we can work with you a bit) we'll PM you the password to the server. If you have a friend who wants to play, feel free to pass the password along as long as they have a solid connection. If we suspect that people are connecting with poor connections that end up compromising the whole server for everybody else, we will move to a whitelist system where only approved IPs are allowed to connect to the server so please, make sure you have a solid connection before you or your friends try to join. BMS has always been susceptible to poor connection speeds and one bad apple can bring the whole event down so please keep this in mind. We would rather not have a white list if we can help it.
Go here to complete a speed test and then post proof of your amazing Comcast© internet back in this thread.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This whole event is very much a work in progress. Cecil and I put in more man hours than I care to admit to create this ugly duckling of a barely workable event. It's probably going to crash. Wonky things are going to happen. Terribly imbalanced forces are going to achieve victory in less than a day. We understand this and will do our best to make corrections as we go with your input. Cecil and I share an extreme passion for flight sims and TvT events and hope that we are able to provide a framework for BMS pilots from around the world to come together and try to murder each other with internet aeroplanes. This is a community event and we will do our best to maintain a policy of transparency. If you guys see a broken process or know how to fix any number of the problems associated with organizing a TvT event, let us know and we will GLADLY accept any help offered. If you have any criticism of the event, we will do our best to at least explain our logic behind why we set things up the way we did. If you have a good idea, we'll implement it. If you have a bad idea, we'll tell you why we think so and move on. I am an actual F-16 Crew Chief for the USAF and I work crazy long hours at work which means I don't have a terrible amount of time at home to dedicate to this event. As a result, there may be times when the server crashes and I won't be around to restart it as I'll be busy playing Air Force. Please be patient as we work together to provide an enjoyable TvT environment for BMS pilots old and new (as long as you paid for Google Fiber). If you have any questions, you can PM Cecil or myself here on reddit. We look forward to gunning you all out of the sky.
SERVER GOES UP 23OCT2016 @1200 PST
NOTE: I mistakenly announced us as running Update 1 but we're running the most up-to-date verison of BMS Update 2 at the moment. Please make sure your BMS is updated and sorry for the confusion.
