Cman, Cetra and I have come to the conclusion that taxes are a very complicated issue. Too complicated to shoe-horn in real fast right as we're about to go live, so we've decided to shelve the idea for right now.
We're going to instead, focus on core issue: making sure the government runs at all before we launch. So I've created this thread to debate taxes. When we found Red Rock, we can use taxes as our first bill - and use it to prove the effectiveness of our new democracy.
The general consensus so far is that the opt-in 'elevated citizen' position is a bad idea. It has the potential to fragment society into a dangerous oligarchy. It also might not be strong enough to do anything.
Some have suggested a mandatory light tax. Others have suggested no tax at all. For posterity, here's the original tax idea, as it has been separated from the working draft.
